when is enough, enough or is it too much

so i got told that my posts may be too long and that they may not get read properly cause i tend to crap on a bit. though this may be the case i tend to use it as therapy and i do enjoy it most of the time.

however, if you think that i should shorten my reports let me know as i can save a lot of my time by not going into as much detail. on the other hand, if you enjoy the detail and think that it helps you understand what is going on better, also let me know.

i do this so you all have something to read, not cause i think i will get a pulitzer prize or anything.

hmmm. Interesting. I reckon its yours to do whatever you like with. If I, like most others, have time, I think a long blog is OK. A blog too short is kinda pointless. Personally, I like to read the ride from somebody else's perspective. But maybe they could be shortened just a smidge.

PS. Great ride today. Looking forward to the 1500m ascent and 2000m ascent targets for Sunday morning!

The blogs help seeing the ride from a different perspective and experience a bit of the tour how others saw it, so keep on posting the usual way i guess...

PS: Stuart, Germany is a good place to have 1500 and 200 ascents ;)

Hi Pete et. al.,

I agree with Stuart. It was a great ride today: 4 challenging climbs.

Despite a few professional concerns, I enjoy the long blogs (and am not guilty of reading them at work between classes). It is important to be as inclusive as possible when describing the high points and incidentals of each ride.

The Sunday long blog should be essential reading too for those sprinter-types who can't seem to make it out when the road heads east (and upwards).

Keep blogging the usual way - it's (almost) always an interesting read. ;-)

pete, sure maybe how many times you 'water the elephant' is too much detail.

but on the whole i really enjoy your blog and actually learn a bit when you throw in the odd tit bit of cycling tip/wisdom here and there.

People will read what they want to. Blog as long as you like.

Did you see what you have to do to get on Fatty's blog? I'm not sure I'm that keen!

pete,

been guilty of the 'long blog' myself when i do the ride write up - but then as you say, it does become quite 'therapeutic'as you write - often to be 'inclusive' and to include as many names and incidents as you can, it does end up being a bit longer - otherwise it ends up just being a list of bullet points - 'x' did this; 'y' did that - pretty bloody boring if you ask me! have i been going on again?? is there a limit to 'comment' length?? should i now stop?? has everyone lost interest???

If it's a cathartic effort that enables you to retain your sanity so you can keep on orgainising the Rouleurs, then go for it!

People will read as much or as little as they choose... More if they think their efforts/antics are going to rate a mention ;-)

We wouldn't get 30... 40... 50+ people turning up on a Saturday if you were getting it wrong!

Pete,
it's your blog. I agree with Mr B's comment re keeping in touch with what's going on on Sundays particularly.
And as Her Majesty points out, if it brings people along and gives a sense of inclusion then it's got to be a good thing.

Hi Pete

It is your blog/cycle diary. The fuller the better in my eyes. Did the person/s who commented on length do the rides they felt were blogged too well? :-)

Sad to have misseda another Sunday ride, had to go running instead.. grrr..

As you were

Keep up the good work Pete and please yourself at the length and content of blog. if it gets too long for some they can scan it or not read as they choose.

The blog length is fine. I'm always impressed that you can remember so many details of who did what where etc. There is no obligation to read the whole thing...

Excellent ride yesterday as well.

Pete,
Because you are looking for feedback...You know I love your blog, but would love it more if the posts were more condensed. This is my opinion, and it seems I may be in the minority. I'm okay with this.
See you guys on Saturday and Sunday this week...

Hi Pete,

You are doing excellent work, do what you want to do. it takes a time to finish reading for me(=improve my English!?) but well detailed and I can feel like Im in the group ride every weekends.

As others have said, it's your blog, do as you please! . I'm amazed at the amount of detail you can recall from every ride.

Having said that, I do aknowledge that I dont read the full post every single time.

Do enjoy the videos and the pics though.

Keep blogging !

Cheers

Hi Peter,

I enjoy the blog, particularly the photos/videos. The level of detail is nice. However, I am in that "attention span too short" category and sometimes would appreciate a little more brevity (and correct capitalisation/punctionation for that matter). These are all matters of personal taste though.

I appreciate how hard it is to include all the important points from such a long ride into a single, snappy post. Thanks for your efforts.

thanks for the feedback guys, but two main points.

1. it is not my blog anymore and i am trying to get more people to contribute so that it becomes the groups blog.

2. i don't like capitals, so i don't use them. i try to make sure the punctuation is correct though.

so anyway, i will keep doing as i am doing, but would appreciate any other blog input that people care to give. even if it is a different perspective of the same ride.
